Blackhaw Wealth Management, an independent Registered Investment Advisor based in Austin, Texas, sought to clarify the differences between fee-based “Registered Investment Advisors” and commission-based “Brokers” through a video featuring Ian McAbeer. This video aimed to help Ian connect with his clients, accredited investors, and explain these distinctions effectively.
The video production took place around Ian’s office in Downtown Austin, Texas. To visually represent the growth and chaos of the city, we captured Ian standing on a sidewalk in an urban environment, showcasing Austin’s vibrant and dynamic atmosphere. Complementary b-roll footage of city-dwelling birds provided a metaphor for contrasting the suitability standard of brokers with the fiduciary duty of registered investment advisors.
As one of Cognitive Films’ earliest clients, this project was an invaluable experience. We learned a lot about the investment advisory industry while communicating Ian’s message, and we’re grateful for his trust in our crew. The collaboration not only helped Ian effectively convey his insights but also enriched our understanding of the industry.
