Independently owned full service established Austin destination, where artists, photographer’s, film makers can work and perform in a private, fully functioning, full-service facility. Vast lighting and sound equipment included in the weekly, daily or hourly rate. 2500 sq ft of white, duo cyc walls and invisible corners. 17 x 24 Green screen. Spacious green room, make up area, multiple bathrooms and on site staff.

We offer areas for set construction, wardrobe, storage, an abundance of available parking, access to our world class on-site vendors, and the LARGEST cyc wall in Texas. Austin Studios provides a competitively priced production alternative to Los Angeles and other major production areas.

Starting in the early 1980’s, Rock N Roll Rentals started as a local haven for guitar traders. The rental concept started during a decline in the economy when a representative from Yorkvilleapproached owner Jim Norman with a rental concept used by Long & McQuade in Canada. In fall of 1989, realizing that Austin’s growing music scene needed a support system for musicians to have affordable access to not-so-affordable equipment, the Austin City Council in conjunction with Bank of the Hills provided a loan to Rock N Roll Rentals to expand their inventory.

The Texas Film Commission was created in 1971 by Texas Governor Preston Smith, who found that it was, “in the social, economic and educational interest of Texas to encourage the development of the film-communication industry,” and that “Texas has a uniquely vast array of resources, natural, human and economic, which lend themselves to the firm and orderly development of a healthy film production industry.” Since then, the TFC has expanded to include the film, television, commercial, video game and animation industries. Over the years, the TFC has been the link between industry professionals spread across the State, creating a community interested in expanding the local media environment.

The Austin Film Society is a non-profit organization that empowers the community to make, watch and love film. AFS offers a model for presenting artistic works of cinema on a regional level. Most films presented are not widely available and we frequently present Austin premieres. Austin Film Society has over 1900 members and attendance at our programs last year was over 40,000.

It was founded in 2005 by Tim League of Alamo Drafthouse, Harry Knowles of Ain’t It Cool News, Paul Alvarado-Dykstra, and Tim McCanlies, writer of The Iron Giant and Secondhand Lions. Lisa Dreyer is festival director. Annick Mahnert is head of programming.
48 Hour Film Project
What happens after the local 48? The top films earn more exposure. The Best Film in each city screens at our annual international film festival—Filmapalooza.
